Elko’s Bobbi Shanks Receives Federal Recognition for Contributions to Childhood Immunization
Reno, Nev. (April 20, 2016) — Elko’s Bobbi Shanks has been named a CDC Childhood Champion for her outstanding efforts to promote childhood immunization in the state of Nevada.
Shanks is the school nurse coordinator for the Elko County School District. However, because Elko County does not have a public health nurse or health district, she has worked tirelessly with a team of nurses and stakeholders to increase the access to immunizations for all children in rural northeastern Nevada.

Immunize Nevada Welcomes Newly-Elected Officers
Immunize Nevada, statewide nonprofit widely recognized as Nevada’s trusted resource for immunizations and community health for all ages, has announced the election of key officer leadership positions to its 2016 Board of Directors. Rutu Ezhuthachan, MD, Medical Director, UnitedHealthcare was elected to serve as Chair of the Board, succeeding Doreen Begley, MS, RN, Health Coordinator, Early Head Start. In addition, Bethany Sexton, Vice President, Revenue Cycle, Renown Health, will serve as Vice-Chair; Roni Galas, RN, BSN, Division Manager, Clinical Services, Carson City Health and Human Services, was elected Secretary; and Melissa Shake, Pharm.D., Immunizations Trainer, Walgreens, was elected Treasurer.
Free Flu Vaccines at Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows Wednesday, January 20, 2016 from 4:30-6:30pm
Immunize Nevada and the Washoe County Health District are partnering to offer free flu vaccines this Wednesday at the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows at 2680 E 9th St., Reno, NV 89512.
Vaccinations will be available for everyone ages 6 months to 64 years and older on a first come, first served basis. People should bring their insurance card (including Nevada Checkup and Medicaid) or information if they have it.
Nevada's Immunization Program Receives $938,606 Award
Carson City -- The Division of Public and Behavioral Health's (DPBH) Immunization Program is one of ten awardees of a new Prevention and Public Health Fund (PPHF) award from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The application process was competitive, and Immunization Program leadership is excited to announce that Nevada will receive $938,606 to focus on comprehensive efforts to increase adult immunization rates across the state.

The National Influenza Vaccination Disparities Partnership (NIVDP) is a national multi-sector campaign, spearheaded by local influential partners who commit to promote the importance of flu vaccination among underserved populations. The partnership is supported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and has worked in 95 cities throughout the United States. Immunize Nevada has been working with NIVDP since its inception.
