AmeriCorps

What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps engages approximately 75,000 men and women in intensive service each year at more than 21,000 locations including nonprofits, schools, public agencies, and community and faith-based groups across the country. AmeriCorps members help communities tackle pressing problems while mobilizing millions of volunteers for the organizations they serve. Specifically, AmeriCorps State & National members engage in a diverse range of direct service projects at local, regional, and national organizations to address critical community needs of disaster services, economic opportunity, education, healthy futures, environmental stewardship and veterans and military families.

Members gain valuable professional, educational, and life benefits, and the experience has a lasting impact on the members and the communities they serve. We have 10 openings throughout the state of Nevada, with full time terms (1700 hours) or half-time terms (900 hours) available.

Members receive a living allowance stipend and the Eli Segal Education Award. The service term begins September 1, 2019 to July 31, 2019. For more information on AmeriCorps, please visit their website here.

AmeriCorps and Immunize Nevada

Immunize Nevada's vision is for healthy communities across the state, protected from vaccine-preventable disease. From this the “Healthy Futures: Reducing Immunization Disparities” project was born. Immunize Nevada partnered with AmeriCorps to implement a project that will keep Nevada's students healthy and enrolled in school to develop successful futures. This project directly connects economically disadvantaged and rural families to preventative and primary health care services by providing access to life-saving vaccinations and educational health resources. Additionally, rural counties may have limited access to health education programs and information.

The “Healthy Futures: Reducing Immunization Disparities” project is set to start this fall, September 2019. This is a direct service opportunity that will work towards improving Nevada’s immunization rates and ensuring that communities across the state are healthier and protected against vaccine-preventable disease.
