Immunize Nevada and the Washoe County Health District are partnering to offer free flu vaccines this Wednesday at the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows at 2680 E 9th St., Reno, NV 89512.
Vaccinations will be available for everyone ages 6 months to 64 years and older on a first come, first served basis. People should bring their insurance card (including Nevada Checkup and Medicaid) or information if they have it.
“Flu activity usually peaks between December and February, so this is a great opportunity for families who still need to get vaccinated, said Heidi Parker, executive director of Immunize Nevada. “As a healthy person, when you get a flu vaccine, you’re protecting more than yourself. You’re helping to limit the spread of disease to the most fragile members of our communities. Infants, young children and seniors are particularly susceptible to complications or even death from the flu virus.”
Flu vaccination, either by shot or nasal spray, is your best chance at not getting or spreading the flu, and Parker adds that Nevada has many options for no-cost flu vaccinations. For those who can’t make Wednesday’s clinic, a list of locations in the community providing flu vaccinations is available at www.influencenevada.org/healthcare-providers.
“Everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine every year,” Parker said. “We hope Northern Nevadans will come out to take advantage of this free opportunity. This is an easy way to keep our community healthy.”
