Meningitis Resources

Amendments to Nevada Administrative Code (NAC) 441A.755 were adopted by the State Board of Health on September 9th, 2016 and affirmed by the Nevada Secretary of State's office on November 2nd, 2016. As noted below, the new requirement will go into effect beginning with the 2017-18 school year. Requirements for 7th Grade Enrollment (Click link for Technical Bulletin)

1. A child enrolling in seventh (7th) grade in a Nevada public or private school after June 30th, 2017 must receive an immunization against Neisseria meningitidis (meningitis) in the form of a quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY). The child must receive at least one dose of MenACWY on or after age 10 years.

2. This new requirement does not apply to students enrolled in a Nevada public or private school before July 1st, 2009.

Requirements for University Freshmen (Click link for Technical Bulletin)

1. A student enrolled as a freshman of a Nevada university, who is less than 23 years of age upon enrollment, may not attend university after September 1, 2017 without proof of immunity to Neisseria meningitidis (meningitis). Vaccination with at least one dose of a quadrivalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY) on or after age 16 years will satisfy this requirement.
