Annual Event Recognizes Nevada Big Shots at 16th Annual Silver Syringe Awards Set for March 1, 2014
Reno, Nev. (Jan 29, 2014)—Immunize Nevada is holding its annual Silver Syringe Awards to recognize 16 outstanding individuals and organizations who have gone above and beyond to protect Nevadans from vaccine-preventable diseases. The 16th annual Silver Syringe Awards takes place Saturday, March 1 at 6:00 PM at the Peppermill Reno.
With 25 states reporting widespread levels of influenza activity in the US including Nevada, Washoe County residents are seeking options to get an annual flu vaccine. Immunize Nevada, Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows and Washoe County Health District are partnering to offer a community flu clinic on Tuesday, January 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club, 2680 East 9th Street in Reno. Flu vaccines (both mist and shots) are available on a first come, first serve basis.
Eradication of many diseases is something that my generation takes for granted and gives little thought to. Growing up, I was frequently reminded of a special cousin my mother lost to polio. Not that long ago, children were killed or permanently disabled from preventable diseases.

Southern Nevada Immunization and Health Coalition Back-to-School Events
July 19, 2013 (Las Vegas) – The Southern Nevada Immunization and Health Coalition (SNIHC) and its partners will sponsor back-to-school immunization and health screenings between August 2 and August 24 to help families meet Nevada’s immunization requirements, and prepare kids for the coming school year.
Immunization Clinics Set for Students Heading Back-to-School
RENO, NEV. (July 15, 2013)—Summer break is winding down and now is the time for children and teens to receive school-required immunizations. Starting Monday, August 12, Washoe County students head back to the classroom and University of Nevada, Reno students follow closely behind with classes beginning Monday, August 26. Children heading into daycare, elementary, middle school and college are required, by Nevada State Law, to be compliant and up-to-date with their immunizations.
April 30, 2013—(Reno, Nev.) Immunize Nevada, Washoe County Health District and Washoe County School District are partnering to offer students Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis vaccine) and annual flu vaccinations this May. Clinics will be held at area schools through May 16 on a first-come, first-serve basis. The clinics target students who will enter 7th grade next fall, but are also open to anyone due for a Tdap booster or flu vaccine. Fees may apply.
Immunize Nevada Launches Pilot Text4baby Project to Connect Nevada Resources with Moms
RENO, Nev. (March 19, 2013) – Immunize Nevada and the Nevada State Maternal and Child Health Division are partnering with text4baby to test a resource module targeting pregnant women and new mothers. Through the convenience of texting, pregnant women and new mothers can receive immunization information, personalized appointment reminders, health alerts, and nutrition advice in the palm of their hand.
