As summer break quickly winds down, your back-to-school checklist may seem longer than you remembered… especially if you still need to get back-to-school immunizations done for the kids! Save the date for the El Sol Back To School Immunization Fair happening tomorrow, where all required school immunizations will be available free of charge while supplies last.
Friday, August 9, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
El Sol Back to School Immunization Fair, 1580 Hymer Ave., Ste. 120, Sparks.
All required school immunizations while supplies last for children 0-18 at no cost. No ID necessary.
Starting Monday, August 12, Washoe County students head back to the classroom and University of Nevada, Reno students follow closely behind with classes beginning Monday, August 26. Children heading into daycare, elementary, middle school and college are required, by Nevada State Law, to be compliant and up-to-date with their immunizations.
When kids get older, they are at increased risk for some infections. Plus, the protection provided by some childhood vaccines begins to wear off, so kids need a booster dose. Vaccine-preventable diseases are still real, and the vaccines for children, preteens and teens can help protect your kids, as well as their teachers, friends, community and other family members from very serious diseases.
We recommend you first check with your child’s primary healthcare provider and make an appointment to get the required back-to-school immunizations. If you don’t have a medical home you can access the following events or community clinics offering back-to-school immunizations. Immunization costs vary, and those children without insurance qualify for the Vaccines for Children Program (VFC).
Parents can easily access their child’s immunization records by contacting their healthcare provider, visiting Nevada WebIZ’s parent portal or calling the Nevada WebIZ helpdesk at 775-684-5954.
