COVID-19 pandemic highlights need for science literacy | Sinclair, Parker and Dunkelberger

We are battling a deadly pandemic – and we will ultimately win this fight because of those working overtime in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) based careers. Innovation through STEM is informing our responses to COVID-19.

Our “virtual” Big Shots celebration is this Friday and to kick off the countdown, we’re highlighting all the amazing nominated community members, healthcare partners, and vaccine advocates chosen by their peers in recognition of their commitment to promoting health and preventing disease across Nevada.

Recently Released Immunization Survey Shines Light on Nevada’s Teen Immunization Rates

The 2018 NIS-Teen Survey highlights a positive trend: Nevada teen males who are up-to-date on the HPV vaccination series increased by 7.4 percentage points compared to 2017 rates. However, HPV vaccination rates among females displayed a downward trend; Nevada teen females who are up-to-date on the HPV vaccination series decreased by 3.5 percentage points.

Announcing the Annual 21st Silver Syringe Awards Winners

It has already been a year since the 20th anniversary of the Silver Syringe Awards and now they’re back. Immunize Nevada will host the 21st Annual Silver Syringe awards in Reno and Las Vegas to coincide with National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW), April 27 – May 4.

A total of 17 measles outbreaks (defined as 3 or more linked cases) were reported in the United States in 2018.
