Silver Syringe Awards and Fundraiser

 Presented by Immunize Nevada, the Annual Silver Syringe Awards and Fundraiser is a statewide tradition for Nevada’s immunization and healthcare stakeholders; celebrating one of healthcare’s greatest accomplishments – Immunizations. The Silver Syringe Awards and Fundraiser is Immunize Nevada's annual fundraising event with all proceeds going directly back into the programs and projects Immunize Nevada offers throughout the state. It’s an evening to showcase the outstanding work and dedication of individuals and organizations who go above and beyond in immunization efforts in Nevada, and honors the life-saving work focused on preventive health success.

The 20th Annual Silver Syringe Awards and Fundraiser is being held in April 2018 during National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW) in both northern and southern Nevada to recognize individuals and/or organizations statewide at two separate dinner awards ceremonies.

ABOUT THE AWARDS
Two different award-types are presented at the award dinner ceremonies. The Silver Syringe Award is presented to individuals and/or organizations for best practices, innovation, improvements, community involvement, and more. Additionally, the Healthy People 2020 Awards are also recognized based on the Immunization and Infectious Diseases Leading Health Indicators for high immunization rates.

SILVER SYRINGE AWARDS
There are 15 distinct Silver Syringe categories for nomination and each category has two winners: Southern and Northern. A committee of Immunize Nevada partners, who work in healthcare and support our mission of promoting health and preventing disease, sit on a panel to determine awardees. Winners are selected based on a nomination process where submissions are made based on the work individuals and organizations have done in the previous year.

CONGRATULATIONS NOMINEES! More than 90 individuals and organizations statewide were nominated for this year's awards. 

HEALTHY PEOPLE 2020
The Healthy People 2020 Awards are based on immunization rates above at least 80 percent.

  • Category one (pulled through the Nevada WebIZ immunization registry): Childhood immunizations for kids ages 19-35 months who receive the recommended doses of DTaP, polio, MMR, Hib, hepatitis B, varicella and pneumococcal conjugate vaccine (PCV) to the target of 80% or higher.

  • Category two (pulled through the Nevada WebIZ immunization registry): Adolescent immunizations who receive the recommended doses of Tdap, MCV4 and HPV to the target of 80% or higher.

  • Category three (pulled through an online submission form HERE): Healthcare personnel vaccinated against influenza to the target of 90% or higher at hospitals, post-acute care facilities and tribal health centers.

SILVER SYRINGE HISTORY
Silver Syringe began in 1998 as a way to celebrate Nevada’s immunization successes and champions. Today, the event has become a statewide tradition for Nevada’s immunization and healthcare stakeholders. This annual event allows for an opportunity to honor those immunization champions who provide excellent service, but may not otherwise be recognized.
