Director of Strategic Communications

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Strategic Communications is a key member of the Immunize Nevada team with responsibility for the planning and execution of the organization’s integrated health communications strategy, media relations and online engagement in support of Immunize Nevada’s programs and budget goals. This position is part marketing director, part strategist, part messaging guru and part social media expert.

Communications

  • Develop and implement a cost-effective integrated marketing and communications plan across multiple platforms including print, digital, broadcast, content creation, web and social media plus in-person public relations opportunities, special events and other related activities
  • Ability to synthesize and translate complex health information from a variety of sources, including scientists, policymakers and experts in the field
  • Plan and organize campaigns that educate our community about the importance of vaccines
  • Communicate, collaborate and frame messages that resonate with a variety of target audiences
  • Institute communications guidelines to reinforce organizational goals, mission, brand and consistent messages
  • Maintain a working knowledge of significant developments and trends in the field of public health and immunizations

Manage Digital Presence

  • Provide leadership and direction for Immunize Nevada’s online presence through Constant Contact, Twitter, Facebook, Websites, Instagram and other strategically relevant online resources
  • Mobilize followers on social media and email to take action
  • Ensure that all content published meets high standards in terms of quality and organizational voice

Public Relations

  • Demonstrated ability and proven track record of successfully working with journalists, including pitching compelling content to a variety of local outlets that are both general and issue-specific
  • Create, write, edit and produce press releases, publications, videos, exhibits, and printed materials, including annual reports
  • Responds to requests from and represents programs and point of view to agencies, organizations, and the general public
  • Manages proactive and reactive media relations, and crisis communications when necessary

Program Support

  • Develop materials, talking points and multimedia for small- and large-scale events
  • Manage and oversee projects handled by external vendors, including graphic designers, web designers, photographers and videographers, print houses, writers, and public relations firms
  • Ability to support advocacy, education and outreach efforts and position Immunize Nevada as a leading voice on immunization issues
  • Serve as the designee for the Executive Director as required
  • Complies with all HIPAA, and other regulations and requirements

Budget

  • Prudently manage organization's resources within project budget guidelines provided by Executive Director
  • Manage vendor activities, making sure budget parameters are met

Supervisory Responsibilities

Hire and manage the Communications Intern. Manage Outreach Committee and Influenza Task Force. This position may also recruit and supervise community and/or student volunteers.

Minimal Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, journalism, communications, public relations or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience, including successful history of planning and executing marketing and community engagement campaigns, preferably in a health-related field
  • Up-to-date vaccinations preferred

Work environment

Generally works in an office environment but may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting, evening and weekend hours sometimes required. Must possess ability and willingness to perform job-related travel, majority within the state of Nevada.
