Immunize Nevada is hiring Community Health Workers (CHWs)
In light of how community outreach is conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to develop an improved model of effective community engagement is through frontline workers of public health/social services. Immunize Nevada has identified the CHW II certification as most closely aligned with meeting the needs of the state flu plan and will be hiring a minimum of four CHW II positions.
CHW II’s will primarily be working in the community in specific target populations with a focus on flu prevention and flu vaccine promotion. CHW II’s will work closely and communicate effectively with families, seniors, persons with disabilities, socioeconomically disadvantaged, uninsured or underinsured, pregnant women, child care age & school-age children, community organizations/partners/agencies, faith-based organizations, etc. When necessary, they will work with the local community health nurse and/or health district.
They will participate in the following activities:
Conduct community outreach and build upon individual and community capacity to access and provide flu vaccination, particularly in high-risk communities
Conduct education, informal counseling, social support, and advocacy during the flu season
Utilize partnerships with community partners and stakeholders to address flu vaccine access challenges among targeted populations
Work with community vaccinators to fund and/or organize community-based flu clinics to reach target audiences and increase flu vaccine uptake
Activities will follow federal, state, and local phased guidelines and protocols for COVID-19 prevention

Rural Northeastern Nevada
Position information:
Full-time, non-exempt, 40 hours a week
Fully grant-funded through June 2021 with supplemental flu funding. Position continuation will be dependent on additional funding.

Pay range: $15 - $19/hour, depending on experience
Position requirements:
High school diploma or equivalency
Nevada Division of Public And Behavioral Health (DPBH) approved CHW training
44 hours of approved continuing education:
20 hours general CEUs
6 hours of ethics trainings
8 hours of mental health training
9 hours of alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs training
1 hour HIPAA training
500 hours of relevant work experience
50 hours of closely supervised experience in CHW competency areas
CHW I applicants who are in process of the above requirements may be considered; or other applicants with equivalent public health work experience and training.
Knowledge of local health disparities and resources to address those disparities
Reliable transportation, valid driver's license and insurance required
Read, write, and speak Spanish preferred
