Immunize Nevada is hiring Community Health Workers (CHWs)

In light of how community outreach is conducted during the COVID-19 pandemic, the need to develop an improved model of effective community engagement is through frontline workers of public health/social services. Immunize Nevada has identified the CHW II certification as most closely aligned with meeting the needs of the state flu plan and will be hiring a minimum of four CHW II positions.

CHW II’s will primarily be working in the community in specific target populations with a focus on flu prevention and flu vaccine promotion. CHW II’s will work closely and communicate effectively with families, seniors, persons with disabilities, socioeconomically disadvantaged, uninsured or underinsured, pregnant women, child care age & school-age children, community organizations/partners/agencies, faith-based organizations, etc. When necessary, they will work with the local community health nurse and/or health district.

They will participate in the following activities:

  • Conduct community outreach and build upon individual and community capacity to access and provide flu vaccination, particularly in high-risk communities
  • Conduct education, informal counseling, social support, and advocacy during the flu season
  • Utilize partnerships with community partners and stakeholders to address flu vaccine access challenges among targeted populations
