Sadly, we feel it’s inevitable.

Given our sheer proximity to California and Arizona, and given that these two states are at the center of concerns over the “Disneyland Outbreak” of measles, we stand prepared.

As we position ourselves to proactively communicate facts and key messages about measles, preparing for the inevitable onslaught of questions we will get from the media and concerned community members, we can’t help but feel a sense of déjà vu — and a frustrating but profound sadness for the families that are impacted.

Free DTaP/Tdap Clinic to Address Elko County Pertussis Outbreak

What:  The Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health, Elko County School District and Immunize Nevada are hosting a free DTaP/Tdap clinic to address the pertussis outbreak (also known as whooping cough) declared in Elko County in late October. As of October 28, Elko County had reported 14 confirmed cases of pertussis since July, compared to 15 total cases of pertussis in Elko County in 2013 and two cases in 2012.

Community Flu Vaccine Clinic Next Tuesday

With 25 states reporting widespread levels of influenza activity in the US including Nevada, Washoe County residents are seeking options to get an annual flu vaccine. Immunize Nevada, Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows and Washoe County Health District are partnering to offer a community flu clinic on Tuesday, January 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club, 2680 East 9th Street in Reno. Flu vaccines (both mist and shots) are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Awards Immunize Nevada $20,000 Grant for Influenza Education and Outreach

RENO, Nev. (November 21, 2012)—Immunize Nevada, a statewide nonprofit network of individuals, businesses, public health entities and organizations committed to improving immunization rates in Nevada, was awarded a $20,000 grant from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. The grant allows Immunize Nevada to extend its annual influenza outreach to seniors throughout the state.
