Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield Awards Immunize Nevada $20,000 Grant for Influenza Education and Outreach

RENO, Nev. (November 21, 2012)—Immunize Nevada, a statewide nonprofit network of individuals, businesses, public health entities and organizations committed to improving immunization rates in Nevada, was awarded a $20,000 grant from Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield. The grant allows Immunize Nevada to extend its annual influenza outreach to seniors throughout the state. The purpose of the multi-media education and awareness campaign, InFLUence Others: Get Vaccinated, is to help Nevadans recognize the importance of getting an annual flu vaccination to protect themselves, but perhaps even more importantly, to protect those around them from contracting the potentially deadly virus.

“Seniors are extremely susceptible to catching the flu, and Anthem’s donation enables us to extend our message directly to this audience,” said Heidi Parker, Immunize Nevada Executive Director. “Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on the generosity of our partners, and we are sincerely grateful for Anthem’s gift to Immunize Nevada.”

InFLUence Others: Get Vaccinated includes a broad range of marketing strategies such as radio, outdoor boards, print and online advertising; traditional public relations; and community clinics and partnerships. This year, the campaign also incorporates a Facebook contest entitled, “Give Us Your Best Shot” where participants can upload a picture of themselves getting a flu vaccination, with a chance to win a $150 gift card. The contest launches during the Reno Bighorns game on November 30.
