Immunizations are a proven critical strategy in reducing the incidence of vaccine preventable disease. The immunization coverage rate for Nevada's children has been consistently low in recent years when compared to the national average. The newly released 2009 US National Immunization Survey (a vaccination coverage survey of children born during January 2006-June 2008) shows that Nevada’s immunization ranking improved from 47th in the nation to 45th for vaccine coverage in 19-35 month-old children.
