School Requirements
Unless excused because of religious belief or medical condition, the following immunization requirements apply to child care, school and college entry:
Child Care Entry Requirements:
A child may not be enrolled in a child care facility in this State unless he has been immunized against the Mumps/Measles/Rubella, Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Varicella, Streptococcus Pneumoniae, Polio and Haemophilus influenzae type b.
School Entry Requirements:
A child may not be enrolled in a public, charter or private school within this State unless his parents or guardian submit to the school a certificate stating that the child has been immunized and has received proper boosters for that immunization for the following diseases:
• Diphtheria
• Tetanus
• Pertussis if the child is under 6 years of age
• Poliomyelitis
• Rubella
• Rubeola (Measles)
• Mumps
• Hepatitis A
• Hepatitis B
• Varicella
• Bordetella pertussis; and a child may not be enrolled in grade 7 in this State unless the child has been immunized against Bordetella pertussis. To satisfy the requirements of this subsection, a child must receive at least one dose of a vaccine against Bordetella pertussis after he/she turned 10 years old.
In addition, required immunizations may include such other diseases as the local board of health or the State Board of Health may determine.
College Entry Requirements:
A person shall not attend a university until he submits to the university proof of immunity to tetanus, diphtheria, measles, mumps, rubella and any other disease specified by the State Board of Health.
A person who is less than 23 years of age; and is enrolled as a freshman shall not reside in on-campus housing until he submits to the university proof of immunity to Neisseria meningitidis. Vaccination against Neisseria meningitidis will satisfy this requirement.
