In December, I joined thousands of frontline workers across the country and received my COVID-19 vaccine! The shot didn’t hurt at all, but there were still tears. Tears for the 310,935 people in this country and the additional 1.3 M worldwide who’ve lost their lives to COVID. Tears because it’s been 11 months since I last hugged my mom. Tears for all my kiddos who have been asked to sacrifice and for the grace with which they’ve handled it all. Tears because, quite frankly, as a frontline worker I’m exhausted. And tears because for the first time since this pandemic started, I feel hopeful that its end is near.
This is the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel we’ve been praying for, but as hospitals are dealing with the destruction left by the holiday surge, let’s not make the same mistake moving forward. We are so close, so please continue to wear your masks, wash your hands, social distance, and educate yourself about the vaccine so you can get vaccinated.
