Northern Nevada Healthy People 2020 Winners Recognized

Reno, NV (May 17, 2016)— Immunize Nevada recently recognized outstanding healthcare providers that have gone above and beyond to protect Nevadans from vaccine-preventable diseases. The number of winners for high immunization rates, which included provider offices, hospitals, post-acute care facilities and tribal health centers statewide, nearly doubled from the previous year. Winners for the Healthy People 2020 award are based on the Immunization and Infectious Diseases Leading Health Indicators that are set at a national level. The indicators recognized at the April awards ceremonies were for childhood and adolescent immunization rates above 80 percent and healthcare worker influenza immunization rates above 90 percent.

There are many components to achieving high immunization rates as a state, but the provider offices are key to providing a medical home and immunization access for Nevada’s communities. A number of different barriers play a factor in Nevada challenging families to access immunizations on time, every time. Additionally, ensuring employees are vaccinated against influenza takes a synchronized effort that begins with the support of the executive leadership team and is implemented by a team of employee health advocates throughout an organization.
