International Dragon Boat Festival Returns to the Sparks Marina
The heat turns up this summer with another must-attend festival!

Reno, Nev. (June 20, 2018) – Immunize Nevada and GWN Events are proud to announce the return of the Northern Nevada International Dragon Boat Festival on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at the Sparks Marina. The inaugural event in 2017 drew hundreds of spectators and racers, with 21 dragon boat teams participating. The event is one of thirty on the Major League Dragon Boat calendar, which runs internationally from April to October, and is the premier dragon boat race on the west coast.

Registration is now open at www.gwndragonboat.com. The cost includes spots for 20 paddlers and drummer, the boat, life vests, paddles, and team tent on race day. Sponsorships are also available for this exciting event, as are volunteer opportunities.

Not only is Immunize Nevada the charity partner, but teams can also raise additional funds through the “Pledges for Paddling” program to benefit Immunize Nevada’s life-saving programs throughout the community. “As a nonprofit dedicated to preventive health, teaming up with GWN for this health-conscious event was an easy decision,” said Immunize Nevada Executive Director Heidi Parker. “It encourages teamwork and anyone, at any fitness level, can participate.”

Paddlers, weekend warriors, and families are invited to join in the festivities and excitement throughout the day at the Sparks Marina! The event will feature vendors and exhibitors in the Health and Wellness Village, Food Truck Bazaar, Kids Fun Zone, and more.

Dragon boats are part of an ancient Chinese celebration which dates back 2,500 years. The most common distance is 500m, with top teams competing a race in about two minutes. Most new teams are in the 2:30 to 3:00 minute range.
