(Reno, Nev.), April 16, 2014 – In an effort to raise childhood immunization rates in northern Nevada, Immunize Nevada, as part of National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW), is hosting a baby shower and immunization clinic. Free food, raffles for baby gear, information on health benefits and services as well as immunizations will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. inside Meadowood Mall on Saturday, April 26.
All recommended childhood immunizations will be available for children 4 years old and under on a first come, first serve basis. All immunizations will be administered by the Washoe County Health District. No ID or insurance is required and no one will be turned away due to inability to pay.
“Nationally we are seeing outbreaks of measles, mumps and whooping cough, all very dangerous diseases. ” said Heidi Parker, Immunize Nevada Executive Director. “It is everyone’s responsibility to make sure their children’s immunizations are up-to-date to better protect themselves, their children and their communities. Plus this event will have many other community health resources all in one location.”
Most parents choose the safe, proven protection of vaccines. Giving babies the recommended immunizations by age two is the best way to protect them from serious childhood diseases, including whooping cough and measles. Parents are encouraged to talk to their healthcare provider to ensure that their infant is up-to-date on immunizations. More information about the event is available at immunizenevada.org.
The Baby Shower Celebration is hosted by Immunize Nevada, Casa De Vida, Maternal and Child Health Coalition of Northern Nevada, Point of Impact, Cribs for Kids, ITCN WIC, Safe Kids Washoe County, Washoe County Health District and Text 4 Baby Nevada.
