How Politicization and Disinformation Impacted the Mitigation of COVID-19

COVID-19 deaths in the United States are disproportionately high in comparison to other industrialized nations. With a population of just over 3 million, Nevada’s COVID-19 total death toll stands at 4,522 as of February 8, 2021, equaling 1,468 deaths per million individuals in our state. Comparatively, the country of Japan, with a population of over 126 million, cites 6,395 total deaths attributed to COVID-19, or only 51 (fifty-one) deaths per million people. Why is this so?

This is Our Shot

In December, I joined thousands of frontline workers across the country and received my COVID-19 vaccine! The shot didn’t hurt at all, but there were still tears. Tears for the 310,935 people in this country and the additional 1.3 M worldwide who’ve lost their lives to COVID. Tears because it’s been 11 months since I last hugged my mom. Tears for all my kiddos who have been asked to sacrifice and for the grace with which they’ve handled it all. Tears because, quite frankly, as a frontline worker I’m exhausted.
