Southern Nevada Immunization and Health Coalition Back-to-School Events

July 19, 2013 (Las Vegas) – The Southern Nevada Immunization and Health Coalition (SNIHC) and its partners will sponsor back-to-school immunization and health screenings between August 2 and August 24 to help families meet Nevada’s immunization requirements, and prepare kids for the coming school year.

No-cost immunizations will be provided to children younger than 19 who are uninsured, underinsured (current insurance doesn’t cover enough or all vaccines), have Medicaid or Nevada Check-Up, are American Indian or Alaskan Native.

Immunization Clinics Set for Students Heading Back-to-School

RENO, NEV. (July 15, 2013)—Summer break is winding down and now is the time for children and teens to receive school-required immunizations. Starting Monday, August 12, Washoe County students head back to the classroom and University of Nevada, Reno students follow closely behind with classes beginning Monday, August 26. Children heading into daycare, elementary, middle school and college are required, by Nevada State Law, to be compliant and up-to-date with their immunizations.

Nevada Linked to Hepatitis A Outbreak

The Nevada State Health Division and local health authorities, in collaboration with several other states, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Food and Drug Administration, are investigating a multi-state outbreak of hepatitis A associated with frozen Townsend Farms Organic Antioxidant Blend of berries sold at Costco. As of May 31, 2013, 30 people ill with acute hepatitis A that may be linked with consumption of a contaminated product have been reported by five states: Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Arizona, and California.

“Prevention and Safety” Theme for Annual Give Kids a Boost: Sun Valley Health and Safety Fair

Reno, Nev. (May 2, 2013)—Timely immunizations for children 0-18 years to avoid vaccine-preventable diseases and knowledge about simple ways to protect children from serious injuries are the focus of this year’s Give Kids a Boost: Sun Valley Health and Safety Fair. The event takes place Saturday, May 18 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Sun Valley Neighborhood Center, 115 West 6th Ave.

Don’t Procrastinate: Vaccinate

April 30, 2013—(Reno, Nev.) Immunize Nevada, Washoe County Health District and Washoe County School District are partnering to offer students Tdap (tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis vaccine) and annual flu vaccinations this May. Clinics will be held at area schools through May 16 on a first-come, first-serve basis. The clinics target students who will enter 7th grade next fall, but are also open to anyone due for a Tdap booster or flu vaccine. Fees may apply.

Immunize Nevada Launches Pilot Text4baby Project to Connect Nevada Resources with Moms

RENO, Nev. (March 19, 2013) – Immunize Nevada and the Nevada State Maternal and Child Health Division are partnering with text4baby to test a resource module targeting pregnant women and new mothers. Through the convenience of texting, pregnant women and new mothers can receive immunization information, personalized appointment reminders, health alerts, and nutrition advice in the palm of their hand.
