Annual Event Recognizes Nevada Big Shots at 16th Annual Silver Syringe Awards Set for March 1, 2014

Reno, Nev. (Jan 29, 2014)—Immunize Nevada is holding its annual Silver Syringe Awards to recognize 16 outstanding individuals and organizations who have gone above and beyond to protect Nevadans from vaccine-preventable diseases. The 16th annual Silver Syringe Awards takes place Saturday, March 1 at 6:00 PM at the Peppermill Reno.

Community Flu Vaccine Clinic Next Tuesday

With 25 states reporting widespread levels of influenza activity in the US including Nevada, Washoe County residents are seeking options to get an annual flu vaccine. Immunize Nevada, Boys and Girls Club of Truckee Meadows and Washoe County Health District are partnering to offer a community flu clinic on Tuesday, January 14 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Boys and Girls Club, 2680 East 9th Street in Reno. Flu vaccines (both mist and shots) are available on a first come, first serve basis.

Free Vaccines and Community Resources at Futsol Health Fair This Saturday

What: Immunize Nevada, in partnership with Amerigroup and Walgreens, will offer free flu vaccines for anyone 7 years and older as part of the Futsol Community Health Fair. No ID or proof of insurance is required to receive a vaccine, however those with insurance are asked to bring their insurance or Medicare cards. Additional community organizations and non-profits will be on-hand with giveaways, free resources and information. There will also be free food and entertainment.

School Required Vaccines at Carson City Health and Human Services

The Carson City Community Health Clinic at 900 East Long Street in Carson City offers all required vaccines to get your child up-to-date for Nevada school entry.  To meet the needs of students heading back to school, the clinic is open daily through Friday, August 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome. Check Local Pharmacies for Tdap and Other Vaccinations

In the past several years, pharmacies have become an important immunization partner in Nevada. If you are looking for a place to get a back-to-school Tdap vaccination for your 7th grade student, your neighborhood pharmacy may just be the closest and most convenient location. The best way to find out what vaccines your pharmacy carries is to call directly. Pharmacies offering immunizations include CVS, Raley's, Rite Aid, Safeway, Smith's and Walgreen's.
