Last Minute Back-to-School Immunization Opportunities This Week

RENO, NEV. (August 4, 2014) – The start of the school year in Washoe County is less than a week away leaving little time for parents to get their child’s back-to-school immunizations up-to-date. Immunize Nevada and multiple community partners are hosting three clinics this week in Washoe County. There is no cost for vaccinations at any of the following events, however a $20 donation is requested to cover the cost of the vaccine. No one will be turned away due to inability to pay. Those with insurance should bring their cards.

Immunization Clinics Set for Students Heading Back-to-School

RENO, NEV. (July 17, 2014)—The school year is fast approaching and with it comes back to school requirements. Now is the time for children and teens to receive school-required immunizations. It is Nevada State Law for children heading into daycare, elementary, middle school and college to be up-to-date with their immunizations.  Starting Monday, August 11, Washoe County students head back to the classroom and University of Nevada, Reno students follow closely behind with classes beginning Monday, August 26.

Nevada’s First Time Moms Can Benefit from Enrolling in Text4baby a Free Mobile Health Information Program

May 6, 2014—Immunize Nevada and the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health gathered today at the Carson Tahoe Women’s Health Institute for a press event to educate Nevadans about Text4baby and to encourage expecting and first time mothers to do something for themselves this Mother’s Day and enroll in Text4baby.

Awareness Campaign and Website Connects Nevadans to Vaccines Resources

(Reno, Nev.) April 29, 2014 – The CDC estimates that vaccinations will prevent more than 21 million hospitalizations and 732,000 deaths among children born in the last 20 years. This week is National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW), an annual observance to highlight the importance of protecting infants from vaccine-preventable diseases and to celebrate the achievements of immunization programs to promote healthy communities. As part of NIIW, Immunize Nevada, along with the Nevada State Immunization Program (NSIP) and Southern Nevada Immunization and Health Coalitio (SNIHC), is launching a statewide awareness campaign about the Nevada Vaccines for Children Program.

What: Immunize Nevada offers northern Nevadans a chance to see the highly praised documentary, Invisible Threat. This powerful documentary on vaccines focuses on understanding the science of vaccination and the misconceptions causing parents to delay or decline immunizations. The film provides a unique and engaging perspective that demonstrates the vital skill of asking questions and pursuing the truth behind the falsehoods found in headlines and on the internet. Following the film will be a discussion panel of local public health experts discussing the film and vaccines

Baby Shower Celebration and Childhood Immunization Clinic Saturday, April 26

(Reno, Nev.), April 16, 2014 – In an effort to raise childhood immunization rates in northern Nevada, Immunize Nevada, as part of National Infant Immunization Week (NIIW), is hosting a baby shower and immunization clinic. Free food, raffles for baby gear, information on health benefits and services as well as immunizations will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. inside Meadowood Mall on Saturday, April 26.

It’s Not Too Late for a Flu Vaccine Community Flu Vaccine Clinic Tuesday, March 4

(RENO, Nev.), February 26, 2014— In an effort to help prevent the spread of influenza and remind people that it’s not too late to get a flu vaccine, Immunize Nevada and the Washoe County Health District are partnering to offer a community flu clinic on Tuesday, March 4 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Career College of Northern Nevada, 1421 Pullman Drive in Sparks. Flu vaccines (both mist and shots) are available on a first come, first serve basis. A $20 donation is requested to cover the cost of the vaccine, however no one will be turned away due to inability to pay.
