Carson City Health and Human Services to host measles vaccination clinics

In order to ensure everyone who needs the vaccine has the opportunity to receive it, Carson City Health and Human Services’ Long Street Clinic is going to offer extended hours each Thursday in February.

“In order to look out for the well-being of our community, we are pleased to offer extended vaccination hours during the measles outbreak” said Nicki Aaker, director of Carson City Health and Human Services.

Free DTaP/Tdap Clinic to Address Elko County Pertussis Outbreak

What:  The Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health, Elko County School District and Immunize Nevada are hosting a free DTaP/Tdap clinic to address the pertussis outbreak (also known as whooping cough) declared in Elko County in late October. As of October 28, Elko County had reported 14 confirmed cases of pertussis since July, compared to 15 total cases of pertussis in Elko County in 2013 and two cases in 2012.

Like many women, I had babies in my late 20s — at a time in my life when I was more trusting, less discriminating and (regrettably) far more likely to be spoon fed my decisions.

Yes, I was educated — I had a few degrees under my belt by then — but I probably left it to the “experts” more than I’m proud to admit regarding the health and well being of my babies.

I believed what I was told, and when my doctors recommended vaccinations, I happily obeyed.
