Flu Vaccines Made Accessible to WCSD Students through Community Partnerships

Reno, NV (October 17, 2018) – Flu season has arrived in Washoe County for the 2018-2019 season. With official reports of 26 flu deaths last season, getting a flu vaccine is critical to protecting the health of all Nevadans.
Immunize Nevada, Renown Health, Safe Kids Washoe County, and the Washoe County Health District are hosting a free flu vaccine clinic for children at The Discovery (490 South Center Street) on Wednesday, October 24 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Anyone over six months of age is invited to receive a flu vaccine.

(August 24, 2018) – Immunize Nevada and the Nevada Division of Public and Behavioral Health, Nevada State Immunization Program are pleased to announce the recently released 2017 National Immunization Survey (NIS-Teen) shows improvements, especially in human papillomavirus (HPV) immunization rates.

As executive director of Immunize Nevada and more importantly, as a parent, I make sure to follow the ACIP recommended vaccine schedule for my family. For my 16 year old son, that meant getting his MenACWY booster dose and asking my provider about the MenB vaccine series. MenACWY was easy. MenB was much more challenging.

Today I was recognized as the 2018 recipient of the Dr. John E. Worden Award from the School of Community Health Sciences at the University of Nevada, Reno. I was beyond surprised when Dean Trudy Larson emailed me the news, and I am overcome with gratitude for this recognition. Below are the thoughts I shared with this year's class of MPH graduates about why a united front is so important to advancing public health right here in Nevada.
