Immunization Clinics Set for Students Heading Back-to-School

RENO, NEV. (July 17, 2014)—The school year is fast approaching and with it comes back to school requirements. Now is the time for children and teens to receive school-required immunizations. It is Nevada State Law for children heading into daycare, elementary, middle school and college to be up-to-date with their immunizations.  Starting Monday, August 11, Washoe County students head back to the classroom and University of Nevada, Reno students follow closely behind with classes beginning Monday, August 26. To help prepare children for the upcoming school year, Immunize Nevada is holding several clinics during the month of August.

Parents can easily access their child’s immunization records by contacting their healthcare provider, visiting Nevada WebIZ’s parent portal at or by calling the Nevada WebIZ helpdesk at (775) 684-5954. All students entering 7th grade must get a Tdap booster shot to enter school. A $20 donation is requested to cover the cost of the vaccine, however no one will be turned away due to inability to pay. Those with insurance should bring their cards.

Where to Get Immunizations:

Immunize Nevada recommends parents first check with their children’s primary healthcare provider to receive the required back-to-school immunizations. Those children without a medical home can access the following events or community clinics offering back-to-school immunizations. Immunization costs vary, and those children without insurance qualify for the Vaccines for Children Program (VFC).
