Free Flu Vaccine Clinic at RTC’s Fourth Street Station (Reno)
Wednesday, December 9, 2015 - 4:00am to 7:00am
RTC’s Fourth Street Station

As part of the RTC’s commitment to creating safe and healthy communities, they are partnering with Immunize Nevada and Walgreens to offer a free flu vaccination clinic. The event will be held at the RTC 4th Street Station (between Lake and Evans) on Wednesday, December 9 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The clinic is part of National Influenza Vaccination Week, a national observance established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to raise awareness of the importance and benefits of flu vaccination.

Flu vaccines will be provided by a Walgreens pharmacist on a first-come first-served basis to people ages seven and above. Although insurance is not required, those being vaccinated should bring their insurance card (including Nevada Checkup and Medicaid) if they have it.

“Everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine every year. The flu vaccine can literally save your life or the life of someone you love. Getting vaccinated not only protects you, but also those in our community who are vulnerable — like children and seniors,” said Heidi Parker, executive director of Immunize Nevada. “We’re grateful to our partners like RTC and Walgreens, who help make it easier for Nevadans to access the flu vaccine. When our community is protected against the flu, everybody wins.”

Flu vaccination, either by shot or nasal spray, is your best chance at not getting the flu, and Parker adds that Nevada has many options for no-cost flu vaccinations. For a list of locations in the community providing flu vaccinations, visit www.influencenevada.org/healthcare-providers.

“It’s fast, easy and usually free through health insurance under the Affordable Care Act,” Parker said. “But keep in mind Influenza vaccine supply varies from location to location. We encourage you to call ahead to check supply prior to going for a vaccine.”
