History of the Nevada Health Conference
Conference History
The 8th Annual Nevada Health Conference embraces the ever-changing health care and public health climates to reflect current issues that providers are facing in their everyday work. This year’s theme: “Keeping our Children, Families and Communities Healthy” will highlight the importance of addressing health disparities, barriers and challenges that continue to exist across the lifespan. This theme continues the partnership that began in 2012 with Nevada’s Maternal and Child health partners, and the expansion with Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion partners in 2013.

Since the first conference in 2005, “Every Child is Worth a Shot,” which welcomed Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter and Former First Lady of Arkansas Betty Bumpers, attendees have benefited from national and regional speakers, along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Two-Day Epidemiology and Prevention of Vaccine-Preventable Diseases (Pink Book) Course.

Alternating each year between Reno and Las Vegas, an average of 70% of attendees are from Nevada (37% Northern 33% Southern) and 30% arefrom other states and U.S. territories such as the Federated States of Micronesia and Samoa. 65% are physicians, pharmacists, nurses and medical assistants. This geographic mix and diversity of health care professionals provides for additional networking and learning opportunities beyond the conference sessions, making the Nevada Health Conference a must-attend for many each year.
